Webinars on Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
There will be a two part webinar series on FGDs. The first webinar witll be held on Monday, 30 September 2024 at 14:00h CEST and the second on 14 November 2024 at 14:00h CEST
Objectives of the webinar series
By the end of both webinars participants will be able to:
Define FGDs
Explain the purpose of FGDs
Distinguish between FGDs and regular 'groups'
Determine when to use FGDs
List the strengths and weaknesses of FGDs
Conduct FGDs
Intended audience
This course is intended for anyone interested in learning more about FGDs. Persons do not need any prior knowledge or experience with FGDs
Core content areas
Definition and use of FGDs in evaluation and (market) research
The overall process of facilitating FGDs (clarifying the evaluation/research questions, developing the moderator's guide, analysis, reporting etc.)
Designing Focus Group questions
Selecting participants for FGDs
Role and skills of the Moderator/Facilitator of FGDs
Role of the observer/recorder
Setting the right stage for the FGD
Questioning Strategy for FGDs (Questioning Route, Topic Guide)
Analysing the data
Tips for Conducting FGDs (neutral setting, recording/note taking, duration, types of questions to use or avoid, inclusion of participatory tools, managing difficult situations etc.)
Ethics (Consent Form, Confidentiality etc.,)
Conducting FGDs remotely
