Master Class on Theory of Change

Objectives of the sessions

 

By the end of the Master Class participants will:

  • Have a concrete understanding of the purpose and different uses of the TOC

  • Understand the essential steps of designing a TOC

  • Be able to understand the fit of the TOC within M&E and other organisational processes

  • Understand different applications and lessons learnt in applying the TOC

  • Develop/Revise a TOC process for your programme

  • Understand the use of TOC for other purposes than just M&E

  • Be able to sensitise others on TOC

 

Intended audience

This Master Class is intended for professionals engaged in the designing, management, implementation and evaluation of development programmes. While some knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is useful, it is not a requirement for this Master Class. Persons can also have no prior knowledge or experience with TOCs

 

Core content areas

  • Introduction and historical background of TOC

  • Exploring the difference between the TOC, Logical Framework etc.

  • Steps to design the TOC

  • Exploring the criteria for a 'good' TOC

  • Assessing when to use TOC (does every intervention need a TOC?)

  • Evaluability of TOCs

  • Tips to aid in the visualisations of TOCs

  • Demo of TOC software

  • Case studies 

  • Issues to consider when designing the TOC

  • Strategies and tools to help participants to build capacity of TOC development within their own organisations

  • Time to reflect on the sessions and to receive practical guidance and advice on actual TOCs from the participants' organisations

 

Format

  • Three (3) day face-to-face course which will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

  •  Group work sessions to work on cases pertaining to the TOC

Early Bird Special for persons who register before midnight, 31 December 2019, € 995 per person

Regular Price for persons who register on or after midnight, 31 December 2019, €1250 per person
