Sex and Gender. Are they the same thing?

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

Here are two terms that are also used interchangeably; 'sex' and 'gender'. However, they mean different things.

Sex has to do with biology, while gender is a social construct.

Persons typically have their sex assigned at birth based on physiological characteristics, including their genitalia and chromosome composition.

On the other hand, gender is culturally defined and based on the particular society's of the expectations of how a 'male' or 'female' should look, dress, behave and conduct themselves.
